Ebony, water, glue
A raindrop is inserted and sealed into a 1cm3 block of ebony.
As ebony is a very dense wood it has the tendency to crack when exposed to
sudden changes in humidity. Therefore, a tension caused by the meeting of the
two elements – the hard, brittle ebony, and the fluid water – is created.
The piece presents a situation with an unknown outcome: will the raindrop make the cube crack and reveal a clue to its presence – or will it evaporate away without trace, entrusting its existence to a story?
